Arleta Taylor
Arleta Taylor is an abstract artist based in Waco, Texas, whose richly textuered paintings have captivated collectors and critics alike. Over fifteen years, she has built a distinctive body of work- immediately recognazible for its tactile surface, limunous layers, and bold memorial resonance. Her canvasses shimmer with gloss, and metallic sheen, commanding attention while inviting intimate contemplation. Arleta's practice spans drawin, composition, collage, and mixes media, with a particualr fascination for the intersection of Baroque aesthetics and contemporary abstractionism. She waves together historical richness and embellished with the directness of modern expression , drawing on symbolism, mythology, and spirituality to create the works that feel both timeless and urgently present. Her subject matter-gratitude, vulnerability, endurance, displacement, and renewal- is deeply authobiographical. As Taylor describes it, emotion becomes physically embedded in the painted surface through her direct touch, each layer carrying the memory pf a personal journey that began with uncertain sight, crossed an ocean, and found its fullest expression on canvas. She has exhibited at ART 2 art Gallery& District in Las Vegas and held a three -month showing at Marie's Wine Bar in downtown Waco in 2024, with futures in the Waco Tribute-Herald and Waco magazine.

The Process

THE PAINTING PROCESS
Arleta Taylor works directly, physically, and intuitively. Her primary tool is her own hands — fingertips pressing paint into canvas, creating surfaces that carry the warmth and immediacy of human touch. She also works with palette knives and spatulas, building up multiple layers that give her paintings their characteristic depth and texture — surfaces that seem to hold light rather than simply reflect it. Her process is rooted in sensation as much as vision. Where many painters step back to evaluate, Arleta moves closer — feeling the texture develop beneath her hands, letting the painting grow through contact and instinct. The result is work that glitters with gloss and metallic sheen, with built-up surfaces that reward close inspection. Alongside her tactile approach, Arleta draws from a rich inner vocabulary — mythology, art history, symbolism, spirituality, and the emotional residue of her own lived experience. She is particularly drawn to the tension between Baroque richness and contemporary abstraction, merging embellishment and rawness, the ornate and the immediate, within a single canvas. At the heart of every piece is a single guiding impulse: the search for light within darkness.
